Amiperas of the municipality of Pétange supports two charitable organisations

The Amiperas section of the municipality of Pétange, chaired by Astrid Stracks-Bernard, offers its 200 members regular and varied activities that help older citizens escape their daily routine.

As alderwoman Raymonde Conter highlighted in her speech, these initiatives play an important role in the social life of seniors.

Under the theme “Youth and the Third Age”, the Amiperas section invited 59 confirmation candidates to actively participate in the “open house” event.

Over six afternoons they took on various tasks and played board games with older residents in order to promote interaction between generations.

The traditional “open house” is organised every Tuesday (except during school holidays) from 2 pm to 6 pm at the cultural centre in Rodange.

Other activities announced for 2013 include an Easter matinee on 26 March, a trip in September to the “Mullefest” in Mertzig and a Christmas celebration on 17 December.

Among the members celebrating their 80th birthday were Alice Lorgé, Bartholomeo Menghi, Marie-Josée Metzdorf, Marcel Schlim, Marie-Thérèse Hansel-Jetzen and Fernande Thoma.

Odette Daab and Maya Schaaf were honoured in the 85-year category.

Margot Baasch-Steffen, Mme Koster-Dauphin and Joseph Fassbender were congratulated for their 90th birthdays.

Jean Rossato was particularly honoured on the occasion of his 100th birthday.

Diplomas for 25 years of Amiperas membership were awarded to Simone Barnig-Thonhofer and Marie-Anne Hopp.

Annie Kreins received a diploma for 30 years of loyalty to the Amiperas section.

The section also showed generosity towards Air Rescue and the Cancer Foundation.

A donation of €1,500 was presented to Air Rescue and €1,000 to the Cancer Foundation.

As Katja Samson from Air Rescue explained, the donated funds will be used to purchase medical equipment for rescue services.

Lucienne Thommes from the Cancer Foundation stated that the funds will be used entirely for cancer research in Luxembourg.

The committee remains composed of president Astrid Stracks-Bernard, vice-president and treasurer John Freres, secretary Arsène Stracks and committee members Josée Metzdorf, Pierre Daab, Sanny Dinckelspiel, Erni Bernard and Jacqueline Boehler.

Honorary vice-president is Hélène Perrard.
