Fewer obstacles for LAR?

The situation of Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR) at the airport could improve in the future.

At least this is suggested by the statements of the Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Claude Wiseler.

He was responding to parliamentary questions from MPs Lucien Lux (LSAP) and Jean Colombera (independent).

In the past, LAR’s management had repeatedly criticised the fact that air rescue staff had to undergo lengthy security checks at the national airport, even during emergencies.

Only a few weeks ago, LAR president René Closter expressed his frustration in an interview with the Luxemburger Wort about what he described as unacceptable conditions at Findel.

However, these circumstances may soon become a thing of the past.

According to Minister Claude Wiseler, improvements to the infrastructure at Findel Airport will also lead to changes at the security checkpoints.

This could reduce the obstacles that LAR faces in its daily operations at the airport.

In this context, a designated zone is also expected to be created to facilitate security checks and access to the airport.

Procedures introduced recently already provide priority treatment in emergency situations, according to the minister.

With the establishment of such a designated zone at Findel, LAR could in the future manage access to this area itself.

However, this would not mean that no security checks would be carried out there.
