At Air Rescue, there is no quiet period even at the turn of the year. The operations centre (LCC) is staffed seven days a week, 24 hours a day. “We are on duty for our members on New Year’s Eve: we take calls, provide medical advice and organize medical repatriations if necessary,” says Olivier Fauris, Head of the LCC.
Whether work is required exactly at midnight or whether there is time to wish each other a Happy New Year depends on the phone and possible emergencies. Raising a glass of champagne to toast to 2016 is strictly forbidden at Air Rescue headquarters. “Alcohol is strictly prohibited in areas related to medicine and aviation. We simply cannot afford to make any mistakes,” Fauris explains.
However, there is at least a special menu: Air Rescue provides a catered meal for those employees who are on duty during New Year’s Eve. (SH)
