Training objective

The PHTLS training aims to improve the management of traumatized patients in pre-hospital settings. It is based on a pragmatic and systematized approach, based on the principles of evidence-based medicine, and on the concept 'Treat first what kills first'.

Duration

16 hours spread over 2 days (2 x 8h).
Recycling:
8 hours every 4 years to maintain certification.

Educational content

The training alternates theoretical courses and practical workshops with realistic scenarios. The main themes addressed are:

Systematic evaluation of the traumatized patient (XABCDE approach)
Airway management and ventilation
State of shock and fluid resuscitation
Management of neurological deficits and spine
Particularities of elderly and pediatric patients
Management of burns
Immobilization and transport in coordination with medical regulation
Interactive indoor and outdoor scenarios

Pedagogical methods

Realistic clinical scenarios
Technical workshops
Exchanges between professionals
Simulation with dedicated hardware

Assessment & Certification

Participants are evaluated on an ongoing basis during the training. A final test is organized, comprising:

MCQ of 50 questions
Practical case of support
Practical assessment
Issuance of an official NAEMT certificate
Valid 4 years
8 hours recycling every 4 years, mandatory to extend the validity
