Frequently asked questions

Your questions, our answers

I want to change my bank details or other personal information on my membership.

You can find all the information and steps on the 'Modify my membership' page.

I’ve finished my studies and started working. How can I get my own membership?

Once you have finished your studies, you’re no longer covered by your parents’ family membership. Please contact us to set up your own membership.

Is LAR an insurer or mutual insurance company?

No, LAR is a private non-profit organisation that relies financially on membership contributions and various donations.

Many companies include repatriation from abroad in their insurance policy. Why should I join LAR rather than another company?

• LAR offers its members a professional, tailored service 24/7. Our members – and the patients we rescue – are the very reason we exist. Unlike commercial assistance companies, your emergency calls aren’t handled by a call centre abroad but by our own team of medical and emergency professionals. From your first call to your safe return to Luxembourg, we’re with you every step of the way.

• No surcharges, no advance payments and no age limits: If you require repatriation, we take care of you – provided your first membership fee was paid at least one month before the request.

• Experts in our field: LAR specialises in organising and carrying out medical air transport for patients – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Why should I become a member of LAR?

Without our members, LAR simply wouldn’t exist. By joining, you help secure the future of Luxembourg Air Rescue, support life-saving missions, and benefit yourself. Operating a fleet of aircraft and helicopters with highly trained crews based in Luxembourg comes at a significant cost. This expert team, ready to respond24/7, ensures a first-class rescue service.

Your membership helps maintain an air rescue service that benefits you as much as the patients we save. And as a thank-you for your vital support, LAR offers every member free medical repatriation from abroad in the event of an emergency.

Can I give a membership as a gift to a loved one?

Absolutely. Simply complete the online form. After payment of the fee, the LAR membership card will be sent to the address of your choice (either to you or to the recipient) in a special 'gift' envelope. Find out moreabout LAR membership as a gift.

Is my LAR membership fee tax-deductible?

As it is not a donation, it is generally not tax-deductible. To support our life-saving mission while benefiting from a tax deduction, visit flar.lu.

As a union member, am I entitled to a discounted rate?

LAR offers preferential rates for certain Luxembourg trade unions. For more information, contact us on +352 48 90 06.

I am not domiciled in Luxembourg. Can I still become an LAR member?

You can become a member and benefit from our repatriation services if your main, continuous and actual residence is in the territory of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in the Greater Region, as well as in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Monaco, Austria, Liechtenstein. General conditions.

Why don't I receive a new card every year?

We have chosen membership cards that remain valid long-term, i.e., as long as the annual fee is paid. However, we will gladly provide a replacement card in the event of loss, theft or damage.

When does my membership fee fall due?

The initial membership, and therefore the first coverage period, takes effect one month after LAR receives payment of the annual membership fee. The coverage period ends the following year on the last day of the month after the month in which payment was received, unless the subscriber has renewed their membership by paying a new fee for the coming year. For example, for a payment on 16 March 2020, the coverage period starts on 16 April 2020 and ends on 30 April 2021. Renewal of membership only takes effect after LAR has received payment of the annual fee and constitutes a new membership.
